Taking the Heat in Cartagena

Cartagena’s Old Town is all the things you imagine in an old colonial town: romantic and colorful, with flowers dangling from balconies and honest-to-goodness horse-drawn carriages parading through the cobblestone alleys.
While the rest of the city may disappoint with its never-ending stream of vendors and flirtatious working girls, life inside the walled Old Town is still charming, with old men dozing in leafy plazas, uniformed school girls on their way to afternoon Mass, open-air atriums beckoning beyond decorative wrought iron gates.
